PETITION TARGET: Starr County District Attorney Gocha Allen Ramirez
Cane, a 2-year-old German Shepherd, was found in La Grulla, Texas, in a shocking state of neglect — emaciated, dehydrated, and chained, with a large open wound on his face that revealed bone and crawled with maggots and flies, according to local news.
Although he was rescued from the neglectful situation, he had likely been suffering for quite some time and was also battling liver and kidney problems. Less than a month later, Cane collapsed during his evening walk and tragically died.
The individual accused of this heartbreaking neglect has since been charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal.
Cane’s short life was marked by suffering—left to rot on the end of a chain, severely neglected, and stripped of even the smallest measure of dignity.
Sign our petition urging the Starr County District Attorney to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law — including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a lifelong ban on having animals.
