PETITION TARGET: Queens County District Attorney Melinda Katz
In a horrifying case of cruelty, a man who was dog-sitting in New York City allegedly kicked a pit bull repeatedly until the dog went still, then dragged his body along the pavement, doused him in oil, and set him on fire in the street, according to CBS News.
This innocent dog was entrusted to someone meant to care for him, but instead, was beaten, dragged, and set ablaze, as if his life were disposable.
The individual allegedly responsible for the dog’s suffering has been charged with multiple offenses—including aggravated animal cruelty, arson, and reckless endangerment—and could spend up to two years behind bars if convicted.
Such deliberate and severe torment must not be met with leniency, as it would send a dangerous message that animal abuse isn’t taken seriously and put more lives at risk.
Sign our petition urging the Queens County District Attorney to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law—including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a lifelong ban on having animals.
